Greetings Students, good morning and Happy Tuesday.
I regret to say I will not be in class today.
However, we will still be taking our test on the Circumference and Area of a Circle on Friday.
Therefore, it is extremely important that you spend your time in class today wisely.
We have already received a brief lesson for Pi Day about circles, Circumference (or the perimeter of a circle) and Area of circles.
For your lesson today, you will be focusing on Circumference and working in partners.
Students, please arrange the desks so that each partner group is separated from one another
If you have the Math Reference Sheet that was passed out at the end of the ANet test last week, you should have the formula listed on there, as well as other useful items.
Otherwise, the formula is here: Circumference = πd
(d = the diameter of a circle)
To approximate the value of pi, we will be using π ≈ 3.14
Anything that you do not complete in class must be completed for homework.
Until you complete this packet with your PARTNER
each group may only take one laptop to read the digital agenda.
Standards Covered:
7.G.B.4
Learning Objective:
SWBAT learn the formula for the circumference of a circle and use it to solve problems.
Do Now (5 Minutes):
Pass out Circumference Lesson packets.
Direct/Whole Class (5 Minutes):
Review Digital Agenda Below
Collaborative Station:
In the Partner Groups listed in the document at the top of the page, please complete your "Circumference Lesson" packet. Annotate each problem using CHAMP
You will need to use this formula: Circumference = πd
When you and your partner are finished, complete the "Circumference Independent Practice" quietly and independently.
If you are finished with both packets ahead of time, go on to the Independent Station.
Independent Station:
Work on Achieve 3000.
You may work on EITHER a Math OR a Science article from the corresponding class
Math:
Step 1: Complete the Algebraic Reasoning Performance Task
Step 2: Choose a Focus Area in which you have not yet passed the assessment: If you have not already, take the diagnostic and review your score.
Use the Summit Playlist Tracker to guide your work.
Take a full page (front and back) of notes on the objectives of the playlist in which you did not score well. If you scored 4/4 on the diagnostic, then take notes on the resource(s) that sound most interesting to you, using the template.
If you have taken a full page of notes on a playlist, then you may request the content assessment. Please raise your hand to let Mr. Bartlett know to approve your test.
If you do not pass, take another full page of notes and try again.
Science:
Step 1: Complete the Pre-Unit Project for Science
Step 2: Request a reading packet from the basket on my desk. Using the CATCH strategy, read and annotate the packet.
Step 3: Take 1 full page (front and back) of Cornell Notes on the Organisms: Matter Cycling and Energy Flow playlist.
Extra Credit: If you finish all of the above, complete another Achieve 3000 article for Extra Credit, take more notes on a summit Math playlist, or work on one of the Extra Credit assignments on Google Classroom:
- Julius Caesar History Mystery
- Islam Hajj Project
- Medieval China G.R.A.P.E.S. Presentation
- Medieval Japan Webquest
- Mesoamerica Webquest
- Engrade Re-take (Fall)
- Engrade Re-take (Spring)
